A federal trade court has ruled that President Donald Trump exceeded his legal authority by imposing certain tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), dealing a setback to his international economic agenda. The court found that the tariffs, particularly those targeting Mexico and Canada, were not justified by the claimed drug-related emergency and constituted an overreach of executive power. The decision is currently stayed pending appeal.
