The European Commission has proposed a change to the current de minimis threshold policy.

The European Commission has proposed eliminating the current €150 duty de minimis threshold and replacing it with a “simplified temporary customs fee.” Originally targeted for 2028, the timeline is now being accelerated. The proposal still requires approval from the European Parliament before it can move forward. As this is breaking news, details on implementation timing and how the new system would function have not yet been released. This change would apply only to parcel shipments; traditional mail would not be affected.
