Canada Post workers, represented by CUPW, have rejected the corporation’s final contract offers in a vote that concluded on Friday, Aug 1.
Unionized Canada Post workers have voted to reject the corporation’s latest contract offers in two separate votes, with more than two-thirds of both urban and rural/suburban members voting against the proposals. The offers, which included a 13% wage increase over four years and the addition of part-time positions, were presented after over 18 months of negotiations between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW). The vote was held following a directive from federal Jobs Minister Patty Hajdu for the Canada Industrial Relations Board to put the offer to members. Canada Post stated it is reviewing its next steps, noting continued operational uncertainty. The Canadian Federation of Independent Business responded by urging the government to extend the current agreement and support structural changes to improve the corporation’s financial sustainability.
