Canada Post and CUPW Back to the Negotiation Table

Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers will resume mediated negotiations Friday to address operational challenges and seek a resolution to ongoing labor uncertainty amid urgent calls to modernize the postal service.

Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) will meet at the negotiating table on Friday to discuss the union’s response to the Corporation’s best and final offers presented on May 28. The discussions, supported by federal mediators, aim to address the significant operational and financial challenges facing the postal service, including declining letter mail volumes and intense competition in the parcel delivery sector. These pressures, highlighted by an independent Industrial Inquiry Commission report, underscore the need for meaningful dialogue to find solutions.

While no agreement has yet been reached, Canada Post emphasizes the urgent need to modernize operations to safeguard its role as a vital national service. The Corporation acknowledges the impact of ongoing labor uncertainty on businesses, particularly as peak retail season approaches, and commits to providing timely updates to support informed planning. Canada Post remains focused on achieving a resolution that delivers stability for both Canadian consumers and the business community.
