Canada Post and CUPW Contract Negotiations Remain Unresolved

Contract negotiations between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) remain unresolved, with increasing tensions following Canada Post’s rejection of the union’s proposal for binding arbitration.

Contract negotiations between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) remain unresolved, with increasing tensions following Canada Post’s rejection of the union’s proposal for binding arbitration. CUPW members have been refusing overtime work since May 23, contributing to delivery delays. This action followed the expiration of a government-imposed moratorium that had paused labor disruptions since a strike in December.

The CUPW opposes Canada Post’s request for a government-imposed vote on its final offer, calling it interference in collective bargaining. Instead, the union proposed binding arbitration, which would prohibit strikes and lockouts during the process. Canada Post rejected this approach, arguing it would prolong negotiations and worsen financial challenges, while also removing employees’ right to vote on a contract.

Businesses relying on Canada Post for last-mile delivery may be impacted by these disruptions and service shifts. Contact your APC Sales or Customer Service Representative to discuss proactive delivery strategies.
