Canada Counter Tariffs

An update to the Canada-US tariff policies

Canada has now finalized the framework for its counter tariffs scheduled to take effect September 8.

There is still a chance the U.S. and Canada reach an agreement before then and the increases are avoided, delayed, or modified. But as of now, Canada has published the effective date, tariff rates, and affected HS classifications.

The new tariffs will range from 15% to 50% and apply only to designated products with a U.S. country of origin.

That distinction matters. A product shipping from the U.S. is not automatically considered U.S. origin.

For now, September 8 remains the effective date, and brands shipping to Canada should understand which HS classifications may be impacted.

We’ll continue monitoring the negotiations and any changes to the current guidance.
